A 42-year-old cocoa farmer, Daniel Kofi Assum, has reportedly cut off his male sex organ in a bizzare situation at Aworowa in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East Region.
He is currently receiving treatment at the Techiman hospital after the incident, which happened on Friday, April 17, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m. According to reports, he was later referred for further treatment due to the seriousness of his condition.
Speaking from his hospital bed in an interview with an Adom reporter, Assum explained that the incident was not a result of mental illness but something spiritual. He called for help and insisted that he is mentally very sound.
“If listeners are listening, my mental health is in good condition and I am not mad, God knows what he is doing. If I had bad mindset I would have done thing to draw police attention, or to the exact that when you go to my household they would have told you that when it dawns on me I pull knife to threaten lives or even my own life. But that is not so because that is not how I am. So this incident is not my doing, it just happened,” Kofi said.
He further appealed to the public and authorities to come to his aid, stressing that he needs support spritually.
His mother, Grace Adwoa Agyeiwaa, told reporters that her son had recently been complaining about hearing voices that pushed him to harm himself. She said the family is deeply distressed by the situation.
The family described him as the main breadwinner, making the situation even more painful and worrying for them.
The incident has left residents of Aworowa in shock. According to reports from citinewsroom.com, Assum was found in a pool of blood after allegedly using a sharp object to injure himself, cutting off his penis. Neighbours quickly rushed him to the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman before he was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for advanced medical care.
Friends and neighbours also expressed disbelief. One close friend, Collins Akumfi Ameyaw, said Assum had never shown signs of mental illness before the incident and was always calm and hardworking.
The shocking case continues to draw attention in the community as doctors work to stabilise his condition and investigate further.
