The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has successfully secured the conviction of two robbery suspects following a violent incident at Asonkore in Obuasi.

The suspects, identified as Rashid Adams and Godfred Ampadu, appeared before the Bekwai Circuit Court on April 10, 2026, where they pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery. Based on their pleas, the court convicted both individuals, sentencing Rashid Adams to 30 years imprisonment and Godfred Ampadu to 25 years imprisonment. The court ordered that their sentences run concurrently.

According to police reports, the convictions stem from a robbery incident that occurred on April 3, 2026. During the attack, a gold dealer was targeted, knocked down with a tricycle, and robbed of both gold and cash in what authorities have described as a coordinated and violent operation.

A third suspect, Dominic Naazie, who is believed to have played a supporting role in the crime, pleaded not guilty to the charges. He has since been remanded into custody and is expected to reappear before the court on April 24, 2026.
Following swift and thorough investigations, police were able to arrest the suspects and recover the stolen gold. Additionally, authorities retrieved a vehicle suspected to have been purchased using proceeds from the robbery.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, emphasizing that efforts to combat violent crime in the region remain a top priority. The Command assured the public that individuals involved in criminal activities will continue to face the full rigors of the law.
